Avelinda

Avelinda was the second of 16 Southport 30's built so far on Southport Island. Designed when it comes to good looks or performance. Avelinda is fitted out as a ine yacht and is currently owned by Douglas  Goldhirsch who was the builder of hulls 8 to 16 fo this model of boat from 2000 until 2021. The company is Southport Island Marine, and hull 17 is set for delivery launch in 2022 by the new owner of this well regarded yard.


Bravo

Bravo is a 20’ Lyman built in 1962 and was acquired by Laura Burns in 2006.  She has since been repowered.

Blue Witch

Built in 1939, 21’ Blue Witch is a Boothbay Harbor One Design #14, built right here in the harbor.

brigadoon

Brigadoon is a Cape Dory built in East Taunton, Massachusetts and is 33’. She was designed by Carl Alberg and has enjoyed sailing the Maine coast for six years with the current owner. Brigadoon has spent most of her time in the North East. Andy Vavalotis founded Cape Dory Yachts and lives in Georgetown, ME. This boat has a full keel and keel hung rudder. From Wikipedia: “Carl Alberg designed many of the company’s models, favoring simple lines, narrow beams, and often utilizing a full keel for superior handling in heavier winds and seas.”


Cassiopiea

Cassiopiea is a catboat with a single, gaff-rigged mainsail flown from a mast that is located just aft of the bow. She is steered with a wheel and rudder, the latter of which is smaller than the typical" barn door" found on many catboats. She has standing headroom down below with large berths in two cabins and a main saloon and an enclosed head. She has a 30 hp Lombardini diesel engine and a three blade Max-Prop. She is a fine boat for cruising Downeast and gunkholing in the small coves that dot Muscongus and Penobscot Bays.


Cats Paw

Cats Paw was built in 1981. She is hull #7 of the  Carl Alberg designed Cape Dory 22’s. She is the perfect pocket yacht and can be found cruising the Midcoast from her home port of Five Islands (Georgetown).


Christy

Christy, formerly Alice W was a commercial lobster boat for her first 33 years.  She was first restored in 2002 by Jamie Houtz at the Landing School, Arundel Mainel .  In 2012 she received further restoration by Tom Townsend of Townsend Custom Woodworking of Mystic CT. Tom Townsend is from a family of artists and his boats are known for there unique and tasteful color combinations.
She is powered by a Chevy 350 Long Block. She has been featured in Wooden Boat Magazine, Soundings and The Wooden Boat Calendar.


Delilah

Delilah is 21’ overall and was designed by Charles Hodgdon and built at Hodgdon Brothers in 1939 (now Hodgdon Yachts). Delilah was shipped with a sister ship to the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club in Cleveland and became the first sloop in the Great Lakes-21 fleet and later renamed the International-21. She returned to the original owners’ nephew in Maine and later was acquired by Charles Race who had her restored at Riverside Boat Company in Newcastle in 2009.


Flying Cloud

Flying Cloud, owned by Thomas Woodin and Eileen King is a 35’ sloop that was built in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1967. Flying Cloud was purchased in 1997 by Russ Woodin. Russ spent the winter refurbishing her, but unfortunately passed away in April of 1998 before ever being able to sail her. She was passed down to his son Thomas, who has lovingly kept her in pristine condition for the past 24 years. Tom and Eileen enjoy sailing Flying Cloud locally and also enjoy longer cruises downeast.


freedom

Freedom is 28’ on deck and about 44’ overall. Built in 1976 by the late Ralph Stanley, her original owner was Richard Dudman. Dudman was a journalist covering the Vietnam war when he was captured by guerrillas in Cambodia. Along with his colleagues, he spent 40 days in captivity and subsequently wrote “40 Days with the Enemy.”  While held in captivity, legend has it that he told his colleagues, “If I get out of here alive, I’m going to Southwest Harbor to have Ralph Stanley build me a wooden friendship sloop and I’ll name her ‘Freedom.’” Mr. Dudman owned Freedom for approximately thirty years and sailed her in Maine and Nova Scotia. Freedom hails from Boothbay Harbor and is currently owned by Karen & Rich Schwartz.

gleam

Designed by renowned naval architect Clinton Crane as his own racing yacht, Gleam enjoyed a very successful early career as a 12 Meter thoroughbred winning regattas from NYC to Newport. Later in her career, when the 12M design became the designated Americas Cup Class, Gleam served as a "trial horse" for numerous local and international campaigns. Her speed was highly respected, and to train alongside Gleam was a true test for any new 12 Meter yacht that hoped to win The America’s Cup. Gleam later fell into disrepair, but ultimately was rescued in 1970 by Bob Tiedeman. She became the first chartering 12 Meters in Newport, RI, and has continued to sail and win races throughout New England. Over the course of her career, Gleam has brought thousands of smiles to many years of sailors.


hayval

HAYVAL is a 1968 sport fisherman built by Brownell Boats in Mattapoisett, MA. She was designed by Eldgidge-Mcinnis, and is one of the earlier cold molded boats built by Brownell. Bruce White is her 4th owner and have owned her since 2002. She had a new bottom installed in 2005, one layer of 1/2x6 inch Mahogany laid fore and aft, and 2 layers of marine plywood laid diagonally on that, all epoxied and coverd with fiberglass. Her original Detroit 8V-53 engines were replaced with two 315 HP Cummins engines in 2013, she cruises at 17 knots comfortably. She has accommodations for 4, with a 3 burner gas stove with oven, a full head with a stand-up shower, and I have cruised her from Bristol Rhode Island to Lunenburg Nova Scotia. She hails from Southport Island now and hopes to find herself cruising in southern waters in the future. She is available for private charters in the summer.


Jacqueline

Jacqueline is a 38’ Jonesport style lobster boat. She was built on Beals Island by Fred Lenfesty in 1967. Originally commissioned as the Roque Island Ferry she has never been a working lobster boat. She has changed hands and names a few times over the years, now bearing the name of owner’s daughter. With a small 130 horsepower diesel Jacqueline cruises comfortably at 9 knots. She hails from Boothbay Harbor and is docked at Bristol Marine, The Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor. She is owned by Ross Branch.


just cruisin’

This boat first appeared in the parade in 2007 when her captain was just 12 years old. Now completely restored, she is making her return debut this year with the same captain, now 28. 1959 MFG Celoron 15' LOA Powered by a 1992 Mercury 40hp outboard. Fiberglass hull with mahogany forward deck, seats, windshield, and transom. Based on and molded after the 15’ wooden Lyman hull of the same year. This boat was sold brand new in 1959 off the dock at Gray’s Wharf in Boothbay Harbor.


marilee

Marilee is one of only 4 NY 40s still sailing. The “fighting forties” are considered one of the most iconic and successful classic yachts ever built. Under the stewardship of her former owner and her captain at the time, Dennis Gunderson (currently 12M Gleam's captain and with Bristol Marine's operations on Boothbay peninsula) Marilee was restored and brought back to her original sailing configuration through an extensive restoration at French & Webb from 2015 to 2017. She is also uniquely “two boats in one” as she can be rigged as a gaff or a sloop true to Nat Herreschoff’s original designs. 2023 sees the reintroduction of her gaff rig configuration. Marilee races extensively in the northeast during the summer on the Classic Yacht Owners racing circuit. Marilee will be racing in the Shipyard Cup Classics Challenge (which they won in 2021) and can often be seen at her local mooring in Ebenecook Harbor.

Muskrat

She is a centerboard yawl.
Draws 4 feet with the board up and 7 with the board down. Great for gunk holing along the coast of Maine!


nellie g ii

The Nellie G II was launched on May 18, 1932 from the Goudy and Stevens shipyard in East Boothbay Maine. The vessel was built for Captain Williams of Boothbay Harbor for use in serving the community of Squirrel Island off Boothbay Harbor as a passenger ferry. The boat was built to replace the Nellie G, a steam powered vessel. The vessel was then sold and operated by Captain Ross Dickson and Harold Dodge. It was later purchased by R & N Fish and Son. It is presently privately owned by George H. McEvoy of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. The Nellie G II is 44’ overall.


Oceana

1973 Egg Harbor 38ft Class built in Egg Harbor NJ. Reportedly Hull #1 f the 38 ft Class prior to new ownership of Egg Harbor Yachts. There have been 4 owners. I am currently the 4th purchasing her in 2005. She was repowered in 2002 with 2- 454Cid (375hp each) Marine Power Gasoline engines and Kohler Genset.


quest

Quest was built in 1986. Cape Dory was the builder. Clive Dent was the designer. Built in Taunton, MA. Joe Mair is the second owner of Quest with the first owner being Peter Converse of Marion, MA from the Converse Rubber Company and Converse sneakers.


Rugosa

Rugosa was built 1952 in West Bath by Fred Larrabee, major restoration 1991-1994 in Scarborough by Tim Swinburne (owner). Originally owned by a Mr. McCallister, owner of Burnam & Morrill in Portland, where she was moored and I first saw her as a young child. Hull, built down keel, white pine on oak frames...decks, sprung Honduras mahogany...power, 1964 Palmer BD 264 6 cylinder gas 135 hp. Rugosa is 30’ overall.


Sabrina

Sabrina was built in 1977 and is 18’ overall. Her hull is an exact copy of the 1920s Herreschoff cat boat on display in the Herreshoff Maritime Museum in Bristol, R!. Squadron yachts also built a sailing catboat called the Herreschoff America. She is powered by a 30 HP Yanmar Diesel engine and has a top speed of 9knots sometimes! Sabrina has been in the Gray family since 1985. She has been a fun, family "day tripper" for years. Sabrina has been in the Antique Boat parade nearly every year for the last 20 years.


salty paws

Salty Paws is a 37' Lord Nelson Victory Tug built in 1986 in Taiwan by Tommy Chen's Ocean Eagle Yacht Building Corporation. Robert Ewing and Jeanne Koenig became her custodians in 2016. Salty Paws spends her summers moored on Linekin Bay and cruising the coast of Maine with the Downeast Yacht Club. In the fall she travels south to Point Pleasant New Jersey. Her first mate is Moxie, a Jack Russell terrier.

seance

Seance is a Hacker-Craft 26 RE. According to their website, the Hacker Boat Company, Inc. is the world’s largest builder of classic mahogany boats. In the 1930’s Hackers were called “The Steinway of Runabouts.” Séance is not a reproduction, but part of a continuing production legacy that dates back to 1908 with modest (Hacker has added a bow thruster and the bottom is now cold-molded) modifications.


storm petrel

Varvet, one of the leading yards in Sweden commissioned well known American yacht design firm Sparkman and Steven's to design a quarter ton ocean racing sloop which became the IW 31, better known as the "Baby Swan". About 300 were built and many of them continue to sail worldwide today. Storm Petrel has very limited cabin and deck space compare to a modern 30ft. racer/cruiser but she makes a perfect day sailor and occasional overnighter for her owner.


tarpon

Tarpon, Gaff Rigged Herreshoff Fish Class Sloop. Built in 1916 at HMF Co. She is one of a very few original Fish Class still sailing. She came to Maine in 1965 from South Dartmouth, MA. Many of the Fish Class Fleet were destroyed in the Hurricane of 1938. Tarpon had moved to South Dartmouth in 1932 and avoided being lost. I purchased her from her South Bristol owner in 1975 and has remained in my family now 48 years.

Tortuga

1972 32’ Grand Banks, previous owners cruised the east coast, formerly chartered out of Bucks Harbor, Maine. Current homeport - Wiscasset, Maine



Turtle

Purchased new on July 6, 1961 by the owners father. The boat is named in honor of the first US submersible vessel 'Turtle' from 1776 fame, as the current owner as a child, overturned the boat, tied 5 gallon buckets of rocks to the bow and stern, to use her as a submersible in Lake Winnipesaukee, N,H. for lake bottom excursions with friends. She has a non "antique" - only 24 year old - Mercury 9.9 outboard fitted. Her LOA is 12’ and she was built by Starcraft Sea Scamp in Goshen, Indiana.


Trivet

Traditionally built in 1935, Trivet boasts mahogany over oak, bronze fastened. Nat Wilson sails, 2cyl Kubota diesel. A sweet sailing classic available for sale. If interested, contact Pam 207-841-6009.



Tusk

“Penbo” Runabout built by Penobscot Boat Works in 1961. She was acquired by the current owners in 2019 and transferred from Deer Isle to Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Tusk has a 1987 Yamaha two-stroke engine. In the off season, maintenance and restoration work is done by Bristol Marine.


Vandy

Vandy is 25’6” overall. Ex Coast Guard, self-bailing, pulling surfboat, hull # 25883, based at Portsmouth, NH Life Boat Station, bought at auction 1955 for $106.00. Converted to powerboat at Riverside Boat Co. in Newcastle ME, by Creston Bryant. Probably built at the Coast Guard shipyard, about 1937, at Curtis Bay, Maryland. Powered by Graymarine 4-cyl 30 hp gasoline engine.


Whiteflash

Whiteflash was built by the Penobscot Bay Boatworks in Rockport, Maine in 1962.   The offshore cruiser was hull number 7 of the cruising pleasure boats designed by Carl Lane and built by this yard. The Burns family purchased the boat from the original owner in 1971 and she remains in the family 52 years later. Boothbay Region Boatyard/Hodgdon Yacht Services has cared for Whiteflash since 1988, replacing the original palmer diesel with a Yanmar in 2003 and then removing and replacing the entire house/superstructure over the 2013 and 2014 winters.  She has been berthed at Browns Wharf for 37 years.

White Lady

White Lady is the last boat built in 1967 by Norman Hodgdon who passed away halfway through her construction and the design and completion of the build was carried out by loving long-term employees and family.


Winsome

Built in 1983, 48’ Winsome has sailed in 4 Bermuda races with a 2nd place in one of them, 1 Caribbean 1500 Rally of 60 vessels sailing from Chesapeake Bay to the Virgin Islands (came in 6th place), has more than 50,000 miles under her keel of sailing between Maine and Trinidad.


zephyr

Zephyr is a double-planked, wood-hull, full-keel sloop with white oak frames built in East Boothbay at the Paul E. Luke boatyard. Her exterior mahogany is finished bright. After years sailing the California coast, Long Island, and Phippsburg, Maine, she returned to her home waters in 2020 under the ownership of sailmaker and local lobsterman Eben Wilson and family. All sails were built in East Boothbay at Nathaniel Wilson Sailmaker's loft. She is 37’ overall.
